Chr. Hansen Lactobacillus paracasei, L. CASEI 431®

The L. CASEI 431® probiotic strain was originally isolated from a healthy baby’s stool sample. L. CASEI 431® survives the journey through the acidic digestive system to the intestine where the bacteria may play a role in supporting health. It has been used in food and dietary supplements since 1995.

The L. CASEI 431® strain has been described in around 60 scientific publications, of which more than 20 are publications of human scientific studies. The reports associate the L. CASEI 431® probiotic strain with supporting immune health in adults1, 2, 3, 4 and digestive health in babies.5

Supporting immune health

Consuming L. CASEI 431® has been associated with a higher number of antibodies (natural proteins that  recognize foreign substances, such as harmful bacteria, and bind to them) following an immune challenge,1, 3, 4 suggesting that L. CASEI 431® may help support the body’s immune system.


Supporting respiratory health

Taking the L. CASEI 431® probiotic strain has been associated with fewer instances of respiratory tract discomfort, fewer visits to health care professionals, and less use of some health care interventions.2


Supporting digestive health

In combination with the Bifidobacterium, BB-12® probiotic strain, supplementing babies with L. CASEI 431® has been associated with softer stools and more regular bowel movements.5

Lactobacillus paracasei, L. CASEI 431® is safe for human consumption; it has been granted QPS (Qualified Presumption of Safety) status from EFSA in Europe.6 It has been tested in human scientific studies at levels of up to at least 50 billion CFU/day, alone and in combination with Bifidobacterium, BB-12®, with no safety issues.
